You can optimise storage on the cameras with our motion-based and scheduled-based retention features, which can result up to 90 days of storage. Footage of critical events can be exported off the camera and downloaded in an MP4 file.
If the camera is stolen, video footage is always encrypted and won’t be accessible to anyone besides the administrator in charge of the cameras. Additionally, the camera admin will be notified via dashboard if something goes wrong. If the camera breaks, then you would only lose footage from that specific camera. If an NVR/DVR breaks or is stolen in a traditional deployment, you would lose video footage from all cameras.
The Meraki Camera is a complete solution—doesn’t require VMS, NVR, or servers like traditional camera systems. When comparing Meraki cameras to complete traditional solutions, we are much more comparable in price. We do this by lowering operational costs and the need to deal with third party resources and fees.
Typically, they want this because they can cover more area with fewer cameras. PTZ cameras are generally more expensive and by nature cannot cover multiple areas at once.
Placing multiple cameras to cover the area ensures consistent coverage of all areas, and distributes risk if a single camera is vandalised or broken.
