The client’s existing data centre infrastructure was unsupportable and insecure, so Vohkus designed and managed the transition to a new public cloud solution including Azure with RDS, Office 365 and a wraparound managed service.

Situation

This client specialises in bespoke transportation and storage solutions, and operates from eight locations across the UK. It needed a data centre infrastructure that would support growth but its existing systems were very old, had already become unsupportable, and were very likely insecure.

With around 50 office staff employed across all its sites, it also needed to provide more reliable service availability and connectivity.

Scope

Rather than simply replacing the existing infrastructure with like-for-like new equipment, Vohkus proposed migrating to a managed service using Microsoft’s public clouds and a managed service contract from Vohkus’s own cloud arm, Meggha.

The solution combines an Office 365 subscription with Azure Remote Desktop Service (RDS), delivered by Meggha as ‘desktop as a service (DaaS)’. The whole package is supported and managed centrally by Meggha. Meggha also sourced and deployed new laptops for the company’s staff to ensure compatibility and security with the DaaS element.

Vohkus/Meggha managed the transition to the new service so that the customer was able to continue to operate without interruption to normal business.

Benefits

The client avoided capital expenditure on new equipment, and instead just paid for transition project management and ongoing operational billing for the Meggha service. By using Meggha’s remote managed service desk all the client’s locations receive consistent and reliable support, regardless of any variability in on-site resources.
